I'm wondering what the remaining people still active on this list feel and/or think about Clex fanfiction. I'm wondering this for several reasons.

First of all, today I decided to try reading some again, after a long break. I found a story that looked interesting, and started reading, but something or other set off alarm bells, and I skimmed through to the end, thank heaven. It seems that Lex had been given amnesia, and this cured his evil. Clark is pure goodness, of course. He and Lex start a relationship, and Clark refuses to tell Lex what he was like before the amnesia, because he was so bad. Clark has to sneak out of the White House early in the morning so that the public don't know they're lovers, a plan that is doomed to failure as these things always get found out, but never mind that. Then Martha comments, when Clark tells her who his new lover is, that he should be careful or something because of 'what Lex put him through'. After that, I quit reading the story for good. No, no, no.

This is the thing that has always bothered me about most Clex fiction over the last few years. In the early days, before Clark started abusing Lex and lying to him constantly, it might still be argued that Clark was a good friend and that Lex was doomed to being the one destroying their friendship. But now? How can anyone ignore what Clark put Lex through? Why do fanfiction writers so often ignore how badly Clark behaved? And if you want to ignore that, how do you explain why their friendship fell apart, when Clark was such a good friend? It was Lex who held onto the friendship long after Clark had turned abusive.

This isn't just a problem for readers, it's a problem for writers, too. And I think we need a Clex writers support group, or something. I never give up, not completely. I hang on to the last fraying threads of any relationship, clinging with my torn and broken fingernails, so I'm willing to discuss all this if anyone else is.

So, if there are still any readers or writers out there, give me something to hang onto, if you can.

ETA: I guess it's time I did give up.

I generally try and stay focused on the positive things about the Clex, because that's the only way I can keep writing and enjoying it, but every once in awhile I run into something that makes me gag. -_-

This time, I was looking for caps and doing transcript searches to find the cap types I wanted. In the middle of the search, I ran into the transcript for 3x19, Memoria.

WTF? Lex was *drugged* into Belle Reve, and Clark KNOWS that, and he STILL hasn't freaking TOLD Lex that, and and and and....

Clark is the lousiest so-called 'friend', ever.

What an ass. -_-

{rant over, but geez...}

{now I have to try and ignore that so I can go back to my happy Clex. Argh.}

I just found out that one of our members, Ciaan, has died. I know no more about it than that, but apparently she died back in late June. :-(
"...If you don't reinvent these characters -- and they are constantly being reinvented in the comic books -- then they become stagnant and they cease being relevant. We were feeling -- and I think a lot of people were feeling -- that Superman was ceasing to be relevant...."

Thus the screenwriter for 'Man of Steel'.

Meanwhile, star Henry Cavill explains Superman's arc in the film:

"Imagine what it would be like to be someone like Clark Kent/Kal-El and feel like a stranger amongst even those that you love, never developing full relationships with people for fear of them discovering how much of a freak you are. Even you don't understand exactly what you are. It's just a lonely existence. With someone who has that much power and responsibility."

Actually, I don't have to imagine this scenario, because we had ten years of it on 'Smallville'. In fact, that was almost all we ever did have on 'Smallville': Clark moaning about how he couldn't have a full relationship with anyone, tormenting the people in his life, because of his fear, then blaming them for everything. And, though this could have been an interesting theme for the show, if only it had been acknowledged and dealt with, it never was acknowledged and dealt with, because the show itself seemed to say it was the fault of everyone but dear, sweet Clark.

I've commented once or twice in various Superman forums about this, and of course I've been told that this is a movie, and not 'Smallville'. I know that, but I can't help thinking that the very theme of Superman being all angsty about his existence will just take over. There will be no real story. Clark/Superman will just blame everyone else for his pain, and that will be his rationale for everything. At least it does not appear that Lex Luthor is in this movie -- or am I wrong about that?

At least the Christopher Nolan Batman movies acknowledged Batman's internal darkness, and Bruce had a reason for his depression, other than 'feeling like a stranger'.

If anyone is still here, what do you think? :-)

I don't know. Should we try to raise our capital and rating, or refuse to play the game?  :-)
